The Media Department at Qatar University (QU) discussed graduation projects for aspiring, male and female, students majoring in journalism, digital journalism, strategic communication, radio, and television for the Fall 2023 semester. Over three intensive days, students precisely discussed their final projects under the guidance of esteemed professors at the department. These projects adhered to scientific and methodological standards, fostering the development of media insights and strategies tailored to address pressing societal issues.
Dr. Wael Abdelal, Head of the Media Department, underscored the emphasis on quality, diversity, and achieving learning outcomes within these projects. Stating, “Our focus on graduation projects isn't merely academic, whereas planning for graduation projects emphasizes quality, diversity, and achieving learning outcomes, culminating in applying the students' academic knowledge and skills in the specialization field," he highlighted addressing numerous societal issues in these projects, enhancing the relationship between the university and various societal sectors in different media disciplines.
He pointed out that in the lead-up to the execution of these projects, numerous programs and intellectual forums paved the way for their realization. Additionally, mini-committees provided valuable feedback, ensuring the projects' quality, diversity in content, alignment with societal issues, and relevance to media institutions within the country. The primary goal was to bolster learning outcomes from these projects while equipping students with the skills needed to confront future challenges effectively.
Dr. Kamal Hamidou, Associate Professor in the Media Department, emphasized the open selection of project topics, encouraging students to choose subjects aligned with their interests, saying, “Supervisors working on graduation projects leave the selection of project topics open, encouraging students to choose subjects that resonate with their interests. As media professors, we guide students in selecting current and pertinent topics, such as environmental and natural issues.” He continued, “We are pleased that the department and university's outputs are now producing students who possess not only knowledge but also awareness of various social, environmental, and political issues. Hence, we always aim to broaden students' choices.”
